Status of Implementation
Sacramento County coordinates with local fire districts on reducing fire hazards. As noted for measure Fire-04, the Sacramento County Office of Emergency Services (SacOES) secured a grant from CAL FIRE to hire a County FireSafe Coordinator to educate, encourage, and develop county-wide collaboration and coordination among various wildfire mitigation groups operating within Sacramento County.
Other collaborations include partnerships with the American River Parkway Foundation for establishing plans and resources to reduce fire hazards in the Parkway while maintaining the integrity of sensitive natural and cultural resources. Plans include vegetation management, signage and access point mapping to enhance response times, and working to address illegal camping and related campfires and other fire ignition hazards in the Parkway.
SacOES continues efforts to build broader coalitions throughout the Sacramento County community in order to elevate partner participation in plans development, information sharing and whole-of-community preparedness programs. SacOES continues to pursue expansion of the firesafe council throughout communities to increase education and engage in wildfire mitigation. Ongoing participation in the FireSafe program will require the continued availability of grant dollars.
