Status of Implementation
PER has reviewed the 2022 CAL FIRE updates to the Fire Hazard Severity Zones and 2025 recommended update for Sacramento County. Properties located within High or Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones will require documentation of compliant Defensible Space Inspection at the time of sale of the property.
Sacramento County residents within High or Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones would need to contact CAL FIRE for inspection. The small portion of residents in Borden/Clay Station would need to contact Herald Fire Department for Defensible Space Inspection.
New proposed development is reviewed on a case-by-case basis to determine whether it is located in High or Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones.
SacOES continues efforts to build broader coalitions throughout the Sacramento County community in order to elevate partner participation in plans development, information sharing and whole-of-community preparedness programs. SacOES continues to pursue expansion of the firesafe council throughout communities to increase education and engage in wildfire mitigation. Ongoing participation in the FireSafe program will require the continued availability of grant dollars.
